Basic Needs

Synopsis

One in four people is affected by mental illness. In the developing world, treatment is often rudimentary; the World Health Organization reports that up to 90 percent of patients have no access to care. This is where Basic Needs comes in. Pioneering a community-based model of mental health care, working with existing government agencies and community groups to fill the mental healthcare gap, Basic Needs has helped over 100,000 people and expects to serve more than a million people by 2020.
