Skoll Foundation Awards 2013: Peace & Human Security

Today, one in four people faces the daily threat of criminal and political violence; armed conflict affects more than 50 countries. The consequences not only involve physical suffering, but also sabotage economic and educational development, which in turn fuels more violence.

This five-minute video follows the work of two new Skoll Foundation grantees whose innovative approaches are helping to end conflicts and lay the foundation for stability and prosperity. With a staff of diplomatic experts, Independent Diplomat provides advice and training in the practical how-to’s of diplomacy for governments, groups and organizations that have much at stake but have been denied seats at the table. Meanwhile, Crisis Action—functioning behind-the-scenes and without publicity—brings NGOs and civil society groups into large coalitions that leverage their combined strengths to convince global actors to take steps to protect civilians in conflicts around the world.
